Narutomaki

Narutomaki is an EP made for Naru the cat. Across six distinct melodies, it moves through voices, cities, and states of being—from songs to instrumentals—capturing motion, distance, and change as they unfold.

Narutomaki(なると巻) refers to the spiral fish cake often found floating in ramen—simple, familiar, and quietly iconic. Its form begins at a center point and turns outward, carrying a sense of motion, repetition, and gentle continuity.

Naru the cat is also named after the narutomaki-shaped spiral marking found on the her body. The pattern begins at the center and flows outward, expressing both the Korean idea of the start of movement and the Japanese sense of naru as a spreading resonance.
